Highfield Road development
We are proposing to build 25 new homes on land near Highfield Road in Ramsgate. This piece of land is separate from the Jackey Bakers Recreation Ground and is already set aside for housing in the Local Plan.
The proposal is subject to planning permission.
If planning permission is secured, we will build these homes to be let to people on our Housing Register, at genuinely affordable rent. Most of the homes will be specially adapted for people with disabilities or long-term health conditions.
Local people are invited to a drop-in session where the plans will be on display.
Date: Wednesday 3 June 2026
Time: between 3pm and 6pm
At: Westwood Community Hub, Westwood Cross Shopping Centre, 23 Margate Road, Broadstairs CT10 2BF.
The council's Strategic Housing team will be there to discuss the plans and answer questions.
People can share their feedback via an online survey on Your Voice Thanet, until Friday 19 June 2026.
Anyone who can’t complete the survey online can request a paper copy by calling 01843 577000.
The proposal also includes a landscaping scheme and improved public right of way.
The planning application will be submitted in summer 2026. This is subject to feedback received during the public engagement.
If approved, we expect work to start on site in spring 2027. Work should take around 15 months to complete. Residents could move in from summer 2028.

Phases
Planning application
During this phase, the design drawings and outline specification will be developed. Feedback from the public engagement will help to shape the design concepts.
The designs will reflect the budget and aims of the project. Experts will check the plans against building regulations.
The Housing Projects team will develop and submit a full planning application. This will include the final design proposals. This application will go to Thanet District Council's Planning Committee for a decision.Once the planning application has been submitted, a formal public consultation will start. This normally lasts for 21 days. At this point the council will consult with a number of different groups. During this period, local people will also be able to share their views on the proposed development.
