10-13 Edgar Road, Margate
Thanet District Council owns the building at 10-13 Edgar Road in Margate. We have developed proposals to convert the building into temporary accommodation. This will be for families in Thanet who urgently need somewhere to live, allowing them to stay close to their friends, relatives, work or school until they find a permanent home.
The proposals include converting the building into six 2-bedroom flats, and four 3-bedroom flats, ten in total. If approved, there will be shared and private garden space at the back. Some changes to the outside of the building are planned, including new windows and a new roof.
The building was previously a hotel and then a women’s refuge. It was bought by Thanet District Council in summer 2023. It is currently used by the Thanet RISE team, which provides support for rough sleepers across the district, 24 hours a day. The RISE service needs to move from Edgar Road before the autumn.
The proposals are subject to planning permission. We expect to submit the planning application in June 2025.
