Thanet Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan

The Thanet Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (Thanet CWIP) aims to create safe and easy routes for everyone to cycle and walk, connecting different areas across the district. Improving walking and cycling routes will help increase road safety, improve air quality and health, make places more accessible, boost the local economy and help Thanet reach its net zero goals.

You can read the adopted Thanet CWIP and associated documents on the website.

Thanet District Council has been working on this Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (CWIP), since 2021 in partnership with the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans), a charity focused on making it easier for everyone to walk and cycle. There has been a lot of public engagement during that time.

People are now invited to share their feedback on two proposed priority walking, wheeling and cycling routes to link Margate and Ramsgate.

There are opportunities to view the initial designs at three drop-in events:

  • Friday 14 August - Thanet District Council Offices, Cecil Street, Margate CT9 1XZ (4.30pm to 6.30pm)
  • Saturday 15 August - Westwood Cross Community Hub (located between Next and Lovisa) (11am to 1pm)
  • Saturday 15 August - Ramsgate Leisure Centre, 161 High Street, Ramsgate CT11 9TT (4.30pm to 6.30pm)

Feedback can also be submitted on Your Voice Thanet until the closing date: Sunday 13 September 2026.
