Antisocial behaviour PSPO
The council has a key role to play in making Thanet a safe place to live, visit and work, and tackling antisocial behaviour continues to be a high priority. Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) were introduced under the Antisocial Behaviour and Policing Act 2014, to ensure public spaces are areas that are free from antisocial behaviour.
Public Spaces Protection Orders provide the council with a wide-range of flexible powers to help tackle antisocial behaviour locally. The council, supported by the local police, is proposing PSPOs with orders which aim to tackle a wider range of antisocial issues that are impacting local communities. It will be looking to implement the orders for three years and it is keen to hear your views on them and to take them into account before finally deciding on the orders that are necessary to help tackle antisocial behaviour in the district.
The Public Spaces Protection order will cover Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate and Westgate-on-Sea. The orders apply to behaviour in public spaces. Public spaces mean any place that is open and accessible to people in the areas referred to. This can mean places like roads, high streets, the beach and parks.
There are seven orders proposed. These are all similar to orders that were in force previously. We have set these out below with a number of questions about each proposed restriction.
We would really welcome your views on each. Your views will help the council make a decision. Once it has considered your views the council will decide whether to make the proposed orders, change the orders or not implement the orders at all.
