Because the cost of parking in car parks is so high, visitors park in the roads nearby. Using Cannon Road Car Park in Ramsgate as an example, residents have to pay for a car park season ticket because visitors/local workers take so much of the street parking. If you are lucky enough to park near your house, then leave for even a short while, you can guarantee someone will have taken that space when you return.
Why don’t you introduce residents-only parking in Cannon Road and Chapel Place? And in roads adjacent to other car parks? Say, one low price permit for the first car, a slightly higher price for a second car with a higher charge for vans. At same time, offer a reduced price car park season ticket team for local workers, teachers, etc.
The Council would probably make more money anyway, if they charged less to park in car parks, thereby reducing the tendency of drivers to search for parking on neighbouring streets.
