No affordable day-rate for local workers!

From "Parking in Thanet"

Go to the project

It’s over £8 per day in the only car parks that permit day-long parking in our towns, most spaces are 1, 2, 3 or 4hr limit. What use is that for an 8hr working day. We all need affordable 9hr passes if we live and work in Thanet. The alternative is a 15+ minute walk which isn’t easy to squeeze in after the school run and within employer expectations. Who that living and working in Thanet can afford £8 per day? And why should they have to?

As a tourist you expect to pay higher rates, but it’s a serious barrier for local people just trying to live life.

How on earth can £8+ be the going rate to park up to go to work in an office or shop in beaten old Margate all day? Poorly maintained and filthy car parks too.

For a fun day at the beach or seafront that price would be worth it, but just for the hum drum day to day, it’s an absolute crime, no open shops and an empty, dirty high street. Local residents need some subsidy. Then these car parks might fill up out of season and pay for the repairs themselves!

Day rates in London only start at £15 😫

Council tax payers should be able to register a maximum of 2 cars, and for an annual fee should be able to park in any TDC car park or on street parking area.
