Motorhome parking
From "Parking in Thanet"
Go to the project
There had been signs put up all along the coastal road (motor caravans 8am - 6pm). Stoping Motorhomes from parking and staying 1 or 2 nights spending money in our towns. Not even being able to watch the sunsets!
And nobody to inforce this. But according to TDC a caravan can park up and stay, which does not make any sense. I thought you had to pay road tax to park up on a road.
The signs to me just reads go away tourist you can’t stay here. Go to Europe and see the welcome Motorhomes get. Parking waste and water for a small sum.
what a estate of tax payers money putting up those signs. Every post! I counted over a hundred!!

I agree with Maxina. Our local economy is heavily reliant on tourism. Motorhomes can be compared to land yachts. They are expensive to buy and enjoyed by many with time and money to spend. Facilities are provided for visiting boats in the harbour but motorhomes are discouraged or penalised. Across Europe facilities are provided for motorhomes to park up in designated areas called Aires, they provide basic facilities to dispose of waste (grey) water and empty chemical toilet cassettes as well as a place to replenish with fresh drinking water. Motorhomes are becoming increasingly popular with people keen to explore and find hidden gems like Thanet. They use campsites for longer stays but frequently like to stay one or two nights as they travel without the hassle of a campsite. Our continental neighbours France, Holland and Germany are keen motorhome users and frequently visit England. Let us encourage them to visit Thanet which is only a short and convenient distance from the Dover ferries. They would be willing to pay a modest fee the facilities provided.
As for caravans and trailers, I see numerous parked illegally on local roads with some clearly derelict and abandoned. Trying to get them removed results in a frustrating battle with TDC, the Police or KCC as each try to pass the buck to each other. There is a derelict caravan in St Augustine’s Road Ramsgate now, it has been there for months.

I agree - let's encourage motorhomes, not prevent them and their spending money
