Enforcement

I said in another post that enforcement is the key to many of the issues we find in our streets. It isn't any good putting down extra yellow lines in places with known issues as many drivers don't take any notice of them as it is. Parking in Thanet is at it's worst I have ever seen here which is down to having no visible Parking Enforcement officers to deal with all the bad parking. Many drivers know they can get away with doing what they like on the roads and pavements so have become accustomed to doing it with no thought to pedestrians or any danger to road users. They have no fear of receiving a penalty notice for their bad parking. It has become a very serious issue that the council needs to deal with now. Penalties need to be applied for bad parking, like they do in Canterbury and Herne Bay. Why is Thanet Council encouraging bad parking through not having a good team of parking enforcement officers out and about in all the towns and villages? This is just common sense really. The problem gets even worse during the summer season when visitors add to the issues by parking haphazardly on street corners, pavements and in no parking areas in the evenings. We need a good team of enforcement officers out past office hours like it's done in many other seaside resorts. They will pay for themselves.

Agree - no there is no point drawing up a strategy based on restrictions and threats of penalties if there is no meaningful enforcement to back it up.
